Roxy Music est un groupe anglais de musique art rock, post punk et glam rock qui eut un succès très populaire et influença bon nombre de groupes rock et new wave. Il fut formé en 1971 par Bryan Ferry (chant, synthés), Brian Eno (synthés de 1971 à 1973), Phil Manzanera (guitare), Andy MacKay (saxophone), Paul Thompson (batterie), Eddie Jobson (synthés, violons de 1973 à 1976) et Graham Simpson (basse de 1971 à 1972). Je parle dans cet article des cinq premiers albums sortis entre 1971 et 1975.
Le premier album de Roxy Music, Debut Album est sorti en juin 1972 qui atteignit la 10ème place au top album du Royaume-Uni et dont un single fut extrait "Virginia Plain". Au départ aucun single ne figurait sur cet album et la sortie de "Virginia plain" en juillet permit à l'album d'être mieux commercialisé grâce au rajout du single dans une nouvelle édition.

Le second album For Your Pleasure est sorti en avril 1973 et est le dernier avec brian eno parti faire une carrière solo d'artiste et de producteur. A noter que c'est Amanda Lear qui pose sur la pochette de cet album (voir ci-dessous). Le single extrait de cet album est "Do the strand" sorti en juillet 1973.

Le troisième album Stranded est sorti en décembre 1973 atteignant la 1ère place dans le top album du Royaume-Uni. LE single qui en a été extrait est le titre "Street life" qui a atteint la 9ème place des charts du Royaume-Uni.

Le quatrième album de Roxy Music est Country Life sorti en novembe 1974 et atteignit la 3ème place au top album du Royaume-Uni. Cet album fut considéré comme le plus sophistiqué et le plus consistant du groupe et fut classé en 2003 387ème meilleur album de tous les temps sur 500 par le magazine Rolling Sone. Deux singles en furent extraits, "All i want is you" et "The thrill of it all".

Enfin le cinquième album de la première ère de Roxy Music est Siren sorti en novembre 1975 et dont son ex-femme et top model Jerry Hall posa pour la pochette de l'album. cet album fut classé en 2003 le numéro 371 meilleur album de tous les temps par le magazine Rolling Stone. Deux singles en furent extraits, "Love is the drug" et "Both ends burning".

Devo (le groupe de désévolution) est un groupe de rock d'after-punk ou de new wave proto-industrielle, originaire d'Akron en Ohio formé par Mark Mothersbaugh (chant, synthé), Bob Casale (Bob 2) (guitare), Gerald V. Casale (basse, chant), Bob Mothersbaugh (Bob 1) (guitare), Alan Myers (1er batteur et co-fondateur du groupe), David Kendrick (2eme batteur) et Josh Freese (batteur actuel du groupe) .
Le groupe s'est produit pour la première fois en 1972 et qui est parvenu à une réelle célébrité à partir de 1976, avec la parution de Are we not men? We are devo..
La musique de Devo et leurs performances scéniques mêlaient des thèmes de science-fiction kitsch, un humour surréaliste "pince-sans-rire" et un commentaire social satirique dans des chansons pop aux synthétiseurs discordants dont les signatures rythmiques étaient souvent inhabituelles.
Devo sort tout d'abord un Ep Be Stiff en 1976 où figurent leurs trois premiers singles "Mongoloid", "(I can't get no) Satisfaction" (reprise des Rolling Stones) et "Be stiff".
Le premier album de Devo est Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo! sorti en 1978 et produit par Brian Eno. Dans cet album, on retrouve deux des premiers singles, "Mongoloid" et "(I can't get no) Satisfaction" ainsi que les singles "Jocko Homo" et "Come back Jonee".

Le troisième album des musicians new wave de Devo est Freedom of Choice qui sort en 1980, prenant un son plus pop synthétique même si les guitares ont toujours un rôle important. Quatre singles en seront extraits, "Girl U want", "Whip it", "Gates of steel" et "Freedom of choice", alors que le single "Flimsy wrap" sorti avant ceux-là n'a pas été intégré à l'album.

Continuons avec David Bowie dans la fin des années 70 et plus précisément la période de 1973 à 1976, où il a sorti 5 albums en quatre ans. Deux albums en 1973 'Aladdin Sane' et 'Pin Ups', 'Diamond Dogs' en 1974, 'Young americans' en 1975 et 'Station to Station' en 1976.

Le septième album studio de David Bowie est Pin Ups qui est sorti en novembre 1973 lequel contient plusieurs reprises. cet album atteindra la première place au top album du Royaume-Uni, et un seul single en sera extrait "Sorrow".
David Bowie sort ensuite son huitième album studio Diamond Dogs en 1974 qui est un concept basé entre la nouvelle '1984' de george Orwell et d'une vision glam d'un monde post apocalyptique. Deux singles en seront extraits, "Rebel Rebel" en février 1974 et "Diamond dogs" en juin 1974.

En 1975, David Bowie sort son neuvième album studio Young Americans dans lequel il laisse de côté le glam pour changer de direction, explorant la soul. Deux singles en seront extraits, "Young americans" et le fameux "Fame" co-écrit avec John Lennon, qui sera son premier hit numéro un aux Etats-Unis. A noter que David Bowie a sorti en single fin 1974 une reprise du fameux hit "Knock on wood" extrait d'un album live.

En 1976, David Bowie sort l'un de ses albums le plus notable, son dixième album studio Station to Station, véhiculant son grand talent et caractère, surnommé The Thin White Duke. De cet album convaincant, quatre singles en seront extraits, "Golden years" en 1975, "Stay" et "TVC 15" en 1976, puis "Wild is the wind" en 1981 pour illustrer une compilation.

David Bowie, de son vrai nom David Robert Jones, né le 8 janvier 1947 à Brixton, est un auteur-compositeur, chanteur, producteur de disques et acteur britannique. Au long de plus de quatre décennies d'une carrière marquée par les changements fréquents de direction et de style, il s'est imposé comme un des personnages les plus originaux et imprévisibles de la musique rock, et de très nombreux artistes se sont réclamés de son influence.
Après quelques singles sous son vrai nom en 1964 "Liza Jane", en 1965, "I pity the fool" et en 1966 "Do anything you say" entre autres, David Bowie sort son premier album éponyme David Bowie en 1967 contenant les singles "Rubber band" et "Love you till tuesday". The Clash était un groupe anglais de musique rock punk qui a expérimenté aussi le reggae, le dub, le ska, le rap, le funk et le rockabilly, formé en 1976 par Mick Jones (chant, guitare), Joe Strummer (guitare, chant), Paul Simonon (basse) et Terry Chimes (batterie).
Le premier album du groupe qui s'intitule The Clash est sorti en 1977, contenant les deux singles "White riot" et "Remote control". Les Sex Pistols sont un groupe de punk rock anglais formé en 1975 à Londres, connus pour être une des formations initiatrices du mouvement punk au Royaume-Uni.
À sa formation, le quatuor se compose de Johnny Rotten au chant, Steve Jones à la guitare, Paul Cook à la batterie et Glen Matlock à la basse. Ce dernier est remplacé par Sid Vicious en 1977.
Malgré une courte carrière de trois ans, un seul album studio enregistré, Never Mind The Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols sorti en octobre 1977 et quatre singles, les Sex Pistols sont décrits par The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) comme « l'irrémédiable groupe de punk rock anglais » (the definitive English punk rock band). En janvier 1978, après une tournée mouvementée aux États-Unis, Johnny Rotten quitte le groupe, annonçant ainsi sa dissolution. Pendant les quelques mois qui suivent, les trois membres restant enregistrent plusieurs chansons pour le film de Malcolm McLaren racontant l'histoire des Sex Pistols, The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle. Sid Vicious meurt un an plus tard d'une overdose à New York.
En 1996, Rotten, Cook, Matlock et Jones se réunissent à nouveau, et partent en tournée de juin à décembre 1996. La formation a également entrepris d'autres tournées en 2003, 2006, 2007 et 2008.

Après ce troisième album, Adamson et Baillie quittent le groupe, Adamson fondera le groupe Big Country. Russell Webb rejoindra le groupe The Skids à la basse.
The Skids réduit au duo Robson et Webb, sort en novembre 1981 son quatrième et dernier album Joy dont furent extraits les singles 'Fields' et 'Iona' composé par Adamson.
